Semicolons and Colons

12-17 Practice

1. Milan, Italy, is an interesting city to visit; the culture there is different from American culture.
2. Milan is located in Po Plain; the Po Plain is located three hundred miles northwest of Rome.
3. Milan's ancient culture originated with the Celts; Milan later became a pawn between France and Spain.
4. Milan houses many famous art museums and exhibitions: the Luigi Bocconi School of Commerce, Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Music.

Italics and Quotation Marks

12-21 Practice

1. London brings to mind the words history and literature.
2. A visit to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre may help you understand how a play like "Julius Caesar" would have been performed.

4. "London" is a short poem by William Blake that shows his opinion of eighteenth-century London.
5. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is a novel about Paris and London.

7. Perhaps you could watch a drama of one of Dickens's novels on Masterpiece Theatre.
